(August 29, 2015)–Jason Day rode a hot hand coming into the Barclays this week, after capturing his first Major at the PGA in Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Fortunately for him it will continue right into next week at the 2nd leg of the FedEx Cup at the Deutche Bank in Boston.
Jason’s 3rd round ( 63) and final round (62) at Plainfield Country Club gave him a pretty nice cushion on Sunday, as he cruised to the winner’s circle.
(Below: Jason Day being congratulated as he comes off the course)
Playing in the last group with Sangmoon Bae was like a walk in the park for Jason. He is slowly becoming a household name–and crowd favorite. He’s a very likeable guy and worthy champion. I’m pretty sure he is gonna visit the winner’s circle a lot more times before his career is over– As long as his “vertigo” stays under control, he’ll do just fine.
Jason’s 3-year old son Dash is getting about as use to the winner’s circle as his famous dad. He’s made a couple of 18th hole appearances, just in the month of August alone. His wife Ellie is 30 weeks pregnant, with their second child. Jason is from Australia and Ellie is from Ohio–talk about crossing paths; nevertheless, a great couple, and great family, with a great future. Jason finished the tournament at -19, with a birdie on 18. Second was Henrik Stenson at -13. Congratulations Jason on a well-deserved victory. You simply outplayed everyone else.
(August 28, 2015)–Attending The Barclays for Friday’s round were Lewis and Rosemary Parham. The Parham’s reside in Hamilton, N.J., near the Princeton area. The couple is seasoned veterans when it comes to golf spectating.
They have been coming to The Barclays for about ten years now, ever since it was played at Westchester Country Club. They’ve attended several different professional events, mainly in the Metropolitan area–such as U.S. Opens at Bethpaige Black, Wing Foot, tournaments on Long Island, at Oakmont in Pittsburg, Congressional in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as PGA at Balsturol in Springfield, N.J. They plan to be at next year’s U.S. Open at Oakmont again, as well as the 2016 PGA at Balsturol Country Club.
Rosemary doesn’t play golf, but supports her hubby’s passion for the game 100 percent. Lewis says he doesn’t golf as much as he used to. Although his all-time high–in one season–was playing 67 rounds of golf.
Lewis and Rosemary have been married 30+ years. Lewis works for Writer’s Cramp Inc., as an Electronic Court Reporter and his wife Rosemary is employed by Ace Insurance Company. The Parham’s are die-hard Giants fans–even though they frequent Philadelphia more often than New York. They plan to attend the Barclays for Friday and Saturday’s round.
(August 27, 2015)–The 2015 Barclays got underway today at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey. After the early morning pairings were completed there was a three-way tie at the top of the leader board with Bubba Watson, Spencer Levin, and Camilo Villegas, all knotted at -5. Close behind at -4 were Danny Lee, Jason Dufner, and Henrik Stenson.
Weather forecast for Northern New Jersey looks, good for the next few days, so expect some low scores and a tight leaderboard throughout this first leg of the Fed Ex Cup.
On a personal note, there’s a great story below…the radar somewhat that needs to be highlighted. Golf Writer Tim Rosenburg ran the article on the Golf Channel Tuesday morning, but for those who may have missed it, I think it’s worthy of rewind or goggling.
It’s about the young golf instructor Wesley Mensing, who lost his life in January of this year, when a moving SUV ran over him and his girlfriend at the corner of Lexington & 62nd St. on Manhattan’s east side in New York City. His girlfriend survived, but Wesley was pronounced dead on the scene.
Wesley was a well-liked golf instructor at Plainfield Country Club with a promising future. He was only 27-years old. He was all about “Bettering The Kingdom”, as he liked to reference when talking to students or clients. Plainfield Country Club members, and the golfing community in general lost a bright young star. Wesley, may you rest in peace.
