Once again, Volkswagen has set a new standard in the compact performance segment with the 2025 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn. It arrived this year with a refined design, enhanced technology, and sporty driving dynamics. After test-driving the Jetta GLI Autobahn, I was convinced it is a compelling choice for luxury, safety, and performance.
While the base Jetta GLI offers sporty styling, turbocharged performance, and a well-tuned suspension, the 2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn adds another layer of luxury and comfort to the lineup. It includes a comprehensive list of features, such as adaptive dampers, a digital gauge cluster, leather upholstery, and advanced drive-assistance systems.
The exterior has been subtly refreshed with a redesigned front grille, updated LED lighting signatures, and new 18-inch alloy wheel designs. Inside, the cabin benefits from higher-quality materials, featuring soft-touch surfaces and optional leather upholstery with red contrast stitching. The infotainment system has also been upgraded to VW’s latest MIB4 software, providing faster processing and enhanced connectivity.

Models and Pricing: The 2025 Jetta GLI is offered in two trims: GLI S and GLI Autobahn. The base GLI S starts at around $33,995, while the fully loaded Autobahn costs $38,496 MSRP.
The 2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn includes a fully customizable 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro that showcases everything from navigation maps to performance metrics. The highlight is the new 12-inch touchscreen powered by VW’s MIB4 system, which is user-friendly and responsive. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features, along with wireless charging. The system includes over-the-air updates and natural language voice control for navigation, climate control, and media.
Power/Performance: The Jetta GLI Autobahn accelerates quickly and smoothly thanks to its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 228 horsepower. It offers a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
An electronically controlled limited-slip differential distributes torque across the front axle, enhancing performance. The vehicle also has 13.4-inch front brake rotors, floating calipers from the seventh-generation Golf R, and three-way-adjustable adaptive dampers.
The sport-tuned suspension on the Jetta GLI strikes an excellent balance between comfort and agility. In Normal mode, it effectively absorbs bumps and potholes. Meanwhile, adaptive dampers and electronically controlled limited-slip differentials ensure a firm grip on exit ramps and during sharp cornering, even in Sport mode.
Volkswagen equipped the 2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn with advanced safety tech, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. The Autobahn also has a 360-degree camera system and park assist, making it ideal for maneuvering in tight urban spaces.
During my week in the Autobahn, the driver-assistance systems kept me safe in the traffic on the 495 Beltway. The Jetta GLI also has a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA.
Fuel Efficiency: EPA estimates the GLI model at 28 city/38 highway MPG.
