The National Black Golf Hall of Fame (NBGHF) is gearing up for its highly anticipated 37th Anniversary Celebration, scheduled to take place from September 16 to 18, 2023, in Atlanta, GA. As a 501c3 organization, the NBGHF remains committed to recognizing historical figures, supporting the next generation of young golfers, and acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Black individuals to the game of golf.
This year’s event promises to be exciting, educational, and a chance for participants to connect with influential figures in golf’s history. The celebration will feature two days of golf at the prestigious Bear’s Best and Bobby Jones golf courses, providing attendees with an opportunity to experience the game firsthand. The highlight of the festivities will be the 37th Anniversary Induction Ceremony on Saturday, September 16th at CNN Omni Hotel located at 00 CNN Center, Atlanta, Ga., where deserving individuals will be honored for their remarkable achievements.
The NBGHF has always been dedicated to nurturing young talent, and this year is no exception. The organization will host a junior golf clinic, aiming to introduce underserved youth to the joys and benefits of the game. By offering this clinic, the NBGHF strives to provide equal opportunities and inspire the next generation of diverse golfers.
The 2023 Host Committee and Jeff Dunovant, PGA and Chairman of the NBGHF will ensure the celebration runs smoothly and successfully. Joining them as a special guest and Induction MC is none other than Damon Hack, on-air personality for the Golf Channel.
Among the esteemed 2023 inductees are Stephen Hamblin, CEO of AJGA (American Junior Golf Association), Carl Jackson, a Hall of Fame PGA Caddie, Andre Springs, Head Golf Coach at Livingston College, and LaRee Sugg, the third Black female to compete on the LPGA Tour. These individuals have made significant contributions to the sport and will be recognized for their outstanding achievements during the induction ceremony.
The schedule for the celebration includes various activities such as the junior golf clinic with PGA teaching professionals, sponsor signage on the golf courses, and memorable rounds of golf at Bear’s Best and Bobby Jones Golf Courses. The festivities will culminate in a closing awards ceremony at Bobby Jones, where participants will be acknowledged for their outstanding performance.
The 37th Anniversary Celebration of the National Black Golf Hall of Fame is not just a commemoration of golf’s Black history, but also a testament to the enduring legacy of these remarkable individuals. By recognizing their achievements and creating opportunities for the next generation, the NBGHF is working tirelessly to shape a more inclusive and diverse future for the sport we all love.
