Golfer Robert Laurence “Physical Man” Martin passed on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, he peacefully bid farewell to family, friends, and this earthly journey.
Robert was born September 8, 1941. He was the son of the late Howard and Evelyn Baxter. He was educated at Second Ward High School, Charlotte, NC, and served four years in the US Air Force. Robert was retired and enjoyed living life as well as taking care of his dear wife, Rhodea. One of his well-known hobbies was golfing. He was a member of The Dream Team with the late John Edward Granger Sr. On any given day you might find him at the local flea market doing what he loved, shopping. He also enjoyed bowling with his family and especially his great-grands.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Evelyn Baxter, sisters Zandrea Baxter and Loretta B. Miller and brothers, Howard Baxter Jr., Curtis “Kurt” Baxter, and Reginald “Reggie” Baxter.
Robert leaves many loving family members to cherish his memories: his faithful wife Rhodea L. Martin; children Derek (Ann) Martin and Nellie (Vincent) Williams; brothers Marvin (Dorothy) Dixon and Alex (Deloise) Dixon; sisters Barbara Baxter, Vera (Robert Lewis) Stevenson, Juanita Carson, and Virginia Newton; sisters-in-law Mary Annie (Monroe) Hughes, Clara (Hollis) Alexander and Juanita Lewis, grandchildren: Shay (Love) Gaston, Heather (Catherine) Williams, Christopher B. Williams, Dereka Martin, and Michael Paul (Brianna) Williams; great-grandchildren: Adien Donar, Josiah Martin, Justice Gaston, Alexander Williams, Michaela Williams, Carmen Williams, Ja’Niya Williams, Sophia Williams, and Bryson Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and caring friends.
