What lies ahead for Florida A&M University athletics following the arrest of Athletic Director Angela Suggs remains uncertain. Suggs, who was just two months into her tenure at FAMU, is now at the center of a criminal investigation launched by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The charges stem from her previous role as president and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation, a nonprofit focused on promoting sports within the state.

The investigation revealed allegations that Suggs misused more than $24,000 in funds while employed at the foundation. On Monday, June 10, 2025 she turned herself in to the Leon County Detention Facility, where she was booked on multiple charges, including one count of grand theft, one count of scheme to defraud, and four misdemeanor counts related to falsifying travel vouchers.

Suggs’ bond was set at $13,500, and she was released later that day. The developments raise questions about leadership and the future direction of FAMU’s athletic department, which has experienced significant visibility and growth in recent years.

Although the investigation stems from alleged actions at her former job, FAMU placed Suggs on administrative leave with pay pending further review. Interim President Timothy Beard confirmed that athletics operations are temporarily overseen by deputy directors Travis Glasgow and Brittney Johnson.

The university has not yet issued a formal statement detailing next steps. As the legal process unfolds, attention will likely shift toward whether an interim leader will be named and how the department plans to maintain its momentum during a time of uncertainty.
