“Telling the story of African American golf legends and its unsung heroes, Epochs of Courage provides the opportunity to immerse one’s self into a cultural side of golf that has not only affected the sport of golf, but also America’s civil liberties since the late 1800s,” says Epochs of Courage Exhibition Founder/Project Administrator Ramona Harriet. “Stories of struggles for equal access to golf courses and equal playing rights will have a profound positive impact to encourage youth, and adults, to rise above circumstances and excel beyond their wildest expectations.”
Epochs of Courage showcases what passionate, determined and motivated people can do when presented with obstacles that block interests and dreams. Epochs of Courage honorary co-chairs Renee Powell (PGA/LPGA) and former professional golfer Jim Dent join in this mission to educate, raise awareness and preserve the history and heritage of African American golf.
“This traveling exhibition has been a vision of mine which I have had for a very long time, and, with all of the culturally-aware companies, clubs and individuals in our country, I believe we will reach our goal for this effort.”
—Ramona Harriet
Powell, second-ever African American LPGA Tour Member, and one of seven females to become the first female members at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (Scotland), is head golf professional at the Powell family-owned Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio. Jim Dent, former PGA Tour and Champions Tour Member, played on tour for more than 40-years. Dent currently ranks 35th on the Champions Career money leaders list. Harriet is grateful for each of them and shares, “I am thrilled to have the support of both of these great golf legends on the project, and I believe that many others will come forward to join us to bring this mobile exhibition to reality.

“It is truly amazing to have a truck exhibition provide opportunities, across the United States, for people to experience and learn about an extraordinary history, one that I feel so privileged and grateful to be a part of,” said Jim Dent, 12-time Champions Tour winner.” I am humbled and honored to serve as Co-chair .”
A cross-section of professionals have united to help make this historical project come to fruition. MRA Experiential Tours and Equipment is turn-key provider of the project’s design, development and logistics team. Project Promoter is Summit Golf Foundation (SGF), a non-profit qualified to receive tax-deductible contributions to promote the mobile exhibition. “I am happy to share that donations can qualify as a tax write-off, and the monies go directly to Summit Golf Foundation,” said Harriet.
The project’s design and development process is approximately six months. Private and corporate financial support is needed to “Get This Show On The Road,” says Harriet.
