America’s Funniest Home Videos host to test his game against top
players from the diversity-focused tour at TPC Las Vegas April 12-13
April 9, 2021 (LAS VEGAS, NEV.) – Renowned celebrity golfer and prominent entertainment personality Alfonso Ribiero will compete with some of the best professional golfers on the APGA Tour next week when he plays the APGA Tour Las Vegas set for April 12-13 at TPC Las Vegas in the famed destination resort city.
The engaging host of ABC primetime hit series America’s Funniest Home Videos, Ribeiro is also fondly remembered as Carlton, the proper counterpart to Will Smith in the iconic 1990s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He is a longtime avid golfer who represents the PGA TOUR as a Brand Ambassador for the PGA TOUR Champions circuit featuring the best over-50 players in the world. He boasts a sub-10 handicap and owns three top 20 finishes at the American Century Championship, the renowned celebrity competition held each summer in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
As an avid golf fan, Ribeiro has followed the progress of the APGA Tour for several years while pursuing his interest in the sport via his brand ambassador role with the PGA TOUR Champions by making appearances and promoting diversity in the sport. He will compete as a professional for a portion of the $25,000 purse and donate any winnings to Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, a charitable organization that helps transform the lives of children suffering from physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse or disease.
“This is a special opportunity to be an official part of the work of the APGA Tour and its mission of driving greater diversity in the sport of golf,” offered Ribeiro, whose charity fundraising appearances in Lake Tahoe and other golf events have contributed to millions of dollars for non-profit causes. “The APGA Tour has enjoyed tremendous success the past few years and I’m proud to be a part of their continued growth.”
“We are excited to welcome Alfonso to our Las Vegas event. He is passionate about the sport and equally passionate about making life better for others.” stated APGA Tour CEO Ken Bentley, who co-launched the APGA Tour with
former PGA TOUR player Adrian Stills in 2010. “I have witnessed first-hand the great work he has done with Fresh Start and look forward to him getting to see the talent that our players possess.”
Ribeiro will be added to a field that includes former APGA Tour Players of the Year Kamaiu Johnson, Willie Mack and Kevin Hall, all of whom teed off in PGA Tour events as sponsor exemptions this winter. Four winners of APGA Tour events this year – Landon Lyons, Michael Herrera, Jarred Garcia and Rovonta Young – will also be in the field of 50- plus golfers as the tour contests its fifth tournament of 2021.
The APGA Tour is in contact with a host of celebrities interested in aiding its diversity mission by playing in pro-ams and tournaments going forward.
