Alyssa Williams
(April 10, 2012)–Alyssa Williams is a seven year-old who has discovered a love for the game of golf. Her love for the sport started when she played miniature golf with her family. She asked her mother if she could join the team at her school, MacFarlane Park Elementary and of course her mother said yes.
Under the tutelage of Coaches Rufus Lewis and Mel Torrey, Alyssa is learning how to play the game and play it well I might add. Alyssa recently placed second in the Inaugural MacFarlane Park Elementary Golf Tournament. The tournament was played at the Countryway Golf Club in Tampa, Fl.
Countryway Golf Club was voted by the Weekly Planet Newspaper as the “Best Value Golf Course in Tampa Bay”. Countryway is a challenging executive course. Par for the course is 61, with eleven par 3’s and seven par 4’s. Water hazards come into play on 14 holes.
Countryway has been in business for over 23 years and is owned by the Sherlock and Creighton families. Dave Creighton was a professional hockey player in the NHL for Boston, New York Rangers, Toronto and Chicago. His son Adam followed in his dad’s footsteps and also played in the NHL for Buffalo, Chicago, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay and St. Louis. “I try to practice golf twice a week and want to play more,” says Alyssa.
Alyssa was born in St. Petersburg, Florida and now lives in Riverview, Florida. Since she has started playing golf, her parents and sister have decided they want to play as well–talk about being an inspiration to the game, she is on it!
Alyssa’s dad, Alfred Williams, played with Alyssa in the tournament at her school. According to Alyssa her biggest challenge was being able to focus for the entire tournament.This year she has learned to take her time and focus more. As a result, she hits the ball better.
Alyssa’s favorite things about playing golf are riding up hills in the golf cart, putting and the hot pink golf balls her Aunt gives her. She also enjoys watching golf tournaments on television.
Alyssa is not only a golfer but she’s a straight A student. Her favorite subjects are math and science. She likes to participate in gymnastic meets, practice karate and plays tennis. She also enjoys playing basketball with her sister Jaylen.
Alyssa is not only an athlete but she is very creative and is a budding artist and writer. There is no telling where this little bundle of energy will end up making her mark in life, but you can bet that it’s going to be something brillant!
Alyssa is definitely a talented young girl with parents who help nurture her interests. Smart, focused and well rounded is this youngster. Alyssa Williams, a pro golfer in the making.
