Golf fans are still waiting to hear if President Trump will still be awarding three athletes with the Medal of Freedom. The presentation was scheduled to take place today, Thursday, January 7, including a posthumous award to two-time Olympic gold medalist Babe Zaharias, according to White House officials.
Why this is important: The award giving ceremony is part of Trump’s final activities in the last days of his presidency. On Monday, he awarded the Medal of Freedom to House Republican Devin Nunes (R-Calif.). He’s scheduled to hand out the same honor to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) next week.
Pertinent: On today, Trump was to also award the Medal of Freedom to golfers Annika Sörenstam and Gary Player. They were previously announced as recipients back in March 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the ceremony was postponed.

Babe Zaharias was an amazing golfer and athlete who won 10 LPGA major championships. And beyond her gold medals, at the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, she was awarded for feats in track and field. at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Noteworthy: Trump has awarded 18 Medals of Freedom during his presidency, only one recipient has been a woman.
