
Angela Laverne Stone was an American singer-songwriter, rapper, actress, and record producer. Born on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina and rose to fame in the late 1970s as a member of the pioneering hip hop trio The Sequence. She was married to Rodney Stone.
Angela, affectionately known to the world as “Angie”, was a proud native of Columbia. Her journey of faith, education, and excellence began at W.A. Perry Middle School and continued at C.A. Johnson High School, where she excelled as a student, athlete, and cheerleader, graduating with the Class of 1980.
She continued her academic development through the Upward Bound program at Benedict College, a program designed to support young scholars in preparing for higher education. Her lifelong commitment to growth, education, and service was honored in 2017 when she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Theology from Next Dimension University in Rancho Cucamonga, California, becoming Dr. Angela Stone.
Her strong educational and spiritual foundation helped shape a life of passion and purpose. Through music, mentorship, and ministry, Angie Stone inspired generations and left a lasting impact on the world. As a singer and songwriter, she was known for R&B hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” Stone has two children, a daughter named Diamond and son Michael D’Angelo.
