Ava Muhammad was a famous American Black Muslim who was best known for being the first female Minister to preside over a mosque and region in the history of the NOI. She died on August 25th, 2022 at the age of 71. Her family has not released any information on the cause of death. Ava Muhammad’s demise has saddened the Muslim community in the United States of America and across the world.
The National Spokesperson for the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Dr. Ava Muhammad, a lawyer and student minister, and radio talk show host, had also written books like Real Love and Queens of the Planet Earth: The Birth and Rise of the Original Woman. She had spent her entire life laboring to disseminate the message of her faith and guiding the lost, making her the first woman to be appointed as a minister in the Nation of Islam’s history. Ava officially accepted her position as the Southern Regional Minister for the Nation of Islam on July 28, 1998. Her prolific writing career, which included both spiritual and academic works, aligns with opportunities in the field of academic writing, where professionals write papers for money, contributing to a broader dialogue and understanding across various subjects.
Ava Muhammad was born in 1951. The pastor also practiced law and obtained her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center in 1975. She made history as the first female Muslim minister while honoring her parents’ Christian faith while growing up in a middle-class family in Columbus, Ohio. She cited having Stokely Carmichael and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as her role models while she was growing up.
Despite having her legal practice privileges terminated in 2013, the attorney joined the New York Bar Association. Muhammad had a prosperous career as a lawyer after getting married to her husband, Darius Muhammad, in 1988.
After being given only five years to live in 1983, at age 28, due to a cancer diagnosis, the minister fought a long battle with her health. But she overcame cancer and lived for a further 40 years because to her strong commitment and persistence.
The majority of the late minister’s supporters and friends have paid tribute to her with an obituary that included stories about Ava that had affected their lives and expressed their desire for her soul to rest in peace.
On Facebook, one of her fans wrote: “It is sad to learn of Sis. Min. Ava Muhammad’s demise. May she rest in eternal peace and may God be happy with her!”

Ava Muhammad got married to Darius Muhammad in 1988, at the time she died she had no children.
