The Juneteenth Golf Weekend (June 19-20, 2022) hosted by Black Golf Alliance (BGA) was the ultimate place to be for golfers looking to celebrate America’s newest holiday. Corporate partners The Memorial Tournament presented by workday in association with PGA Tour brought forth an unparalleled experience while supporting Wilberforce University golf, raising $30,000.
The Clearview Golf Course in East Canton, OH was the first stop for the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Golf Weekend and golfers had an enjoyable time playing the historic landmark course and meeting its Owner and Head Golf Professional Renee Powell (PGA/LPGA) who was the second African American woman ever to play on the LPGA Tour.
“We had over 40 golfers and many sponsors from The Alliance that came together from across the country to celebrate Juneteenth and we were able to raise $30,000 (our $15,000 was doubled by Workday) to support Wilberforce University’s golf team,” said BGA President Ro Thompson.
With the 47th playing of the Memorial, the prestigious PGA TOUR event hosted annually by golf legend Jack Nicklaus serving as the backdrop, the BGA’s second annual Juneteenth event the weekend was filled with golf, social events, and many more activities for patrons. “A hearty BGA post said “Congratulations to all of our flight winners: Derek Brown, Mia Jackson, Kevin Parker, and Latrease Ricks.”
