SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The crowd roared as Brooks Koepka chipped in for an eagle on 17 at the 2021 Waste management Open. Looks like the 30-year old has regained his top form.
Koepka is a four-time major champion, but he had not succeeded in claiming a PGA Tour Title since the 2019 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. In 2020 he also suffered through several injuries that plagued the West Palm Beach, Florida-born, golfer. When asked on Friday if it felt like it had been a long time since he’d claimed victory, he said during the press conference, “I would say so. In my mind last year didn’t even happen. I do know it’s been a long time so I’m itching to get a W.”
Koepka marvelously chipped in the eagle from 98 feet at the 334-yard 17th hole. It was beautifully executed and was Koepka’s second eagle of the day. The shot brought him from behind to claim his victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The feat also edged out South Korea’s K.H. Lee (68) and Xander Schauffele (71) by one stroke.
“It’s what I live for,” Koepka said. “I live for those moments where you got to close, you got to hit some quality shots, quality putts. I don’t know, I just like showing off, I guess.”
