On Saturday, January 13, an exhilarating tournament unfolded at the Centre Of The World Golf Course in Tema, Ghana (West Africa). This remarkable day witnessed the triumphant capture of the Captain’s Prize by players fueled by an unwavering desire to win. The annual event drew a full roster of golf enthusiasts, promising not only competitive fervor but also enticing prizes and a delectable buffet awaiting participants at the 19th hole.
Formerly recognized as Tema Golf Course, this scenic golfing haven finds itself positioned quite literally at the center of the world. Situated close to the equator and straddling the Greenwich Meridian, marking 0° longitude, the course holds a unique geographical distinction. While the actual Greenwich Meridian lies in the ocean off Ghana’s coast, the golf course stands as the closest location to this significant point where human habitation thrives.
Adding to its allure, in 2019, the Ghana Tourism Development Company unveiled a plaque on the 7th hole. This plaque visually depicts the separation of the Eastern and Western hemispheres on the course, a scientific fact duly recognized by the Navy. The Centre Of The World Golf Course stands not only as a battleground for golfing prowess but also as a site of geographical significance, making each swing on its greens an experience beyond the ordinary.
