The commemoration of the life of James Black, a distinguished Professional Golfer, will take place on Friday, July 14 at the United House of Prayer for All People, located at 2321 Beatties Ford, Charlotte, NC 28216. The viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service, which will commence at 12:00 p.m.

Renowned for his exceptional talent and groundbreaking achievements, James Black, a golf legend, shattered barriers and set records as one of the pioneering Black professional golfers. After battling a prolonged illness, Black passed away on Thursday, June 22, at the age of 81. Growing up adjacent to a golf course, Black experienced a vastly different era in Charlotte and throughout the country. At the age of 21, he participated in his inaugural PGA event, becoming the first Black man to claim the top spot on a PGA leaderboard at the conclusion of a full round. The subsequent Black golfer to achieve this feat was Tiger Woods in 1998.
It has been said that Arnold Palmer, at one point, acknowledged Mr. James Black as the golfer with the most exceptional hand skills he had ever encountered. Black went on to compete in 11 PGA events, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
