This week, Charlie Woods finished tied for 103rd in the 15-18 age category at the 2024 Future Masters, June 21-28, 2025, at Dothan Country Club in Dothan, Alabama, which was reduced to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
The Future Masters, one of the longest-running junior championships in the United States, is celebrating its 75th year in 2024. It boasts notable former teenage champions like Stewart Cink, Hudson Swafford, and Ollie Schniederjans. The Dothan Country Club, located near the Georgia-Florida border, hosted the 232-player event from Thursday to Saturday. Despite two rounds being completed, poor weather prevented a third round from being played by all participants.
Organizers had announced before the final round that any delays on Saturday would result in the event being shortened. Although some golfers completed a third round, their scores were not counted.
Ultimately, it was Bed Shedd who won the overall 15-18 title with a five-under gross score, thanks to a first-round 69 and an impressive second-round 66. Shedd triumphed by two shots over Brantley Moore and Drew Williams, who, like Woods, are part of the high school graduation class of 2027. Woods, one of the younger competitors, shot 73 and 76, finishing with a nine-over gross score, placing him near the bottom of those who made it to the weekend.
In the first two rounds, 15-year-old Woods was paired with other sons of former Major championship winners. He was three-over through the first eight holes on Thursday before making a birdie on the 18th, which started a slight shift in momentum. He made another birdie on his 10th hole but dropped two more shots down the stretch due to three bogeys and another birdie.
After signing for a 73 on Thursday, Woods struggled to gain momentum the following afternoon, starting on Dothan’s back nine. He carded double bogeys on the 12th and 14th holes and a bogey on the 17th, resulting in a halfway score of 40. Two more bogeys on the front nine didn’t help, but a birdie on the 6th hole limited the damage, and he finished with an overall score of 149. Woods began his third round on Saturday, as a video shared by NUCLR Golf on X showed him driving down the 10th. However, bad weather prevented him from finishing and bouncing back from earlier rounds.
Despite the challenging conditions, Woods had recently qualified for the US Junior Amateur by winning the pre-championship event at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Florida.
Other notable participants included Liam Curtis, son of 2003 Open champion Ben Curtis, who finished T24 with a three-over gross score, making him the best-performing junior with a Major-winning father. Henry Kuehne, son of 1998 US Amateur victor Hank Kuehne, finished T73 at seven-over, while Jacob Immelman, son of 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman, missed the cut with a 19-over score.
Overall, the weather-shortened 2024 Future Masters was a challenging event for many participants, including Charlie Woods, who showed promise despite the tough conditions.
