Christian Heavens Hired as New Assistant Golf Coach at McKendree University

(LEBANON, Ill., July 22)—McKendree University golf coach Mikal Guffey has announced the hiring of Christian Heavens as the Bearcats’ new assistant coach.
 
Heavens comes to McKendree with an impressive background after spending the past year as the director of instruction at Stonewolf Golf Club. Prior to that, Heavens was a lead instructor at Top Golf in Chesterfield, Mo.


 
“I am thrilled for Christian to join our program,” said Guffey. “He brings an impressive golf IQ. His enthusiasm and passion for the game, collegiate and professional experience, and desire to teach adds tremendous value to the continued development of our student-athletes and the McKendree golf program.”
 
After a standout collegiate career at Georgetown College, Heavens made his mark professionally as a member of the PGA Tour Canada. During his time on tour, Heavens won 22 professional events. He also participated in some high-profile golf events on television, including the Golf Channel’s Big Break Myrtle Beach in 2014. Heavens also took part recently in ABC’s Season 2 of Holey Moley.


 
During his career at Georgetown, Heavens was a two-time, first-team All-Conference member of the Mid-South Conference. As a junior in 2010, he won first place in the final individual standings at the MSC Championships. For his efforts, Heavens was named the MSC Golfer of the Year and went on to earn third-team NAIA All-America honors. In each of his final three seasons at Georgetown, Heavens finished in the top 12 of the MSC Championships.

Before heading to Georgetown, Heavens was an accomplished golfer at nearby Belleville East High School. He was a two-time team Most Valuable Player for the Lancers while twice earning All-Conference accolades.
