Quincy Leonard, an Alabama A&M University graduate, prominent member of his community, and Founder of LEO Golf Academy at Gateway Golf Course Montgomery, AL, will be recognized and inducted into the 19th Annual African American Golfers Hall of Fame during its annual event being held in Palm Beach County, FL, May 25-29, 2023.
The multi-day program is packed full of activities and includes a leadership conference, golf skills camp and tournament, reception, awards dinner celebration, auction and the 13th Annual African American Collegiate & Youth Golfers Hall of Fame, all hosted by Inner City Youth Golfers Inc.
The mission is “to celebrate and honor the history and achievements of African Americans and other significant supporters who have contributed to growing the game of golf since the early 1800’s.” said organizational Founder & President, Malachi Knowles, in a press announcement.
Leonard has a swath of achievements and has recognized twice by U.S. Kids Golf, earning an honorable mention in their annual Top 50 Kids Teacher Award. Among more than 500 applicants, Leonard is one of the select few who have received this accolade, which recognizes the world’s most outstanding youth golf instructors.
Leonard’s coaching methods at his LEO Golf Academy have helped thousands of students achieve success and develop a love for the game. He was named as the US Kids Golf Montgomery Tour Director in February 2018, and through LEO Golf Academy, he offers private lessons, group golf clinics, and local tours to area youth. With over two decades of experience and over a decade of coaching youth golf, his strong industry knowledge benefits boys and girls who attend his clinics.
According to Leonard, his work is “inspired by God, family, and a passion for helping youth develop in the game of golf.” His children playing golf motivated him to start the LEO Golf Academy, and he is innately a passionate person, determined to get things done. Leonard is a strong believer in affirmations, teaching his children and students the value of hard work and perseverance.
In addition to his work, Leonard coaches students from the Montgomery Therapeutic Recreation Center (MTRC) with physical and mental disabilities. His champions have competed and won in Special Olympics Golf events, showcasing his dedication to the game and the development of all his students. The passion that Leonard has for his work challenges kids around Montgomery, Alabama, to develop their character, life skills and values through learning how to play golf and applying the principles to the other aspects of their lives.
