Concern Over Charles Barkley’s Physical Appearance Has Fans Talking

by AAGD Staff

Charles Barkley has recently become the subject of conversation not for his on-air commentary, but for his noticeably changed physical appearance. Viewers couldn’t help but notice that the 62-year-old NBA Hall of Famer appears significantly leaner compared to just a few months ago. His transformation drew comments and prompting from fans: “I’m concerned,” “How much weight did Chuck lose?” and playful references to weight-loss medications made the rounds online. Though only his face was visible in recent footage, the slimmer look was unmistakable.

It wasn’t just the weight that shifted the narrative—Barkley seems energized, stepping off the set of “Inside the NBA” and diving enthusiastically into his other passion: golf. The unexpected agility and energy in his new frame are especially fitting, given how seriously he’s taken the sport in recent years.

Barkley’s love for golf has grown steadily since his NBA days. He spoke recently about why golf appeals to him more than fast-growing sports like pickleball. As he described it, golf is enduring, accessible as one ages, and a game he can enjoy with family—including, he hopes, future grandchildren. Unlike high-intensity sports, golf offers longevity and connection, both key to its appeal for him.

In May 2023, Barkley said on a May 26, episode of The Pat McAfee Show that he started at 352 [pounds] and, “I’m down to 290,” the 60-year-old former NBA star revealed. “I’m starting to feel like a human being, not a fat ass anymore.”  At that time, the sports analyst said he was exercising and taking the prescribed drug called Mounjaro, injected weekly, and was down 62 pounds, according to usmagazine.com.  He also joked: “My doctor told me, she says, ‘There’s a lot of fat young people. Ain’t a lot of fat old people, they’re all dead.’”  He looks even leaner nowadays. He went on to day that he “gained a lot of weight when I got my new hip.” After his second hip surgery — he had his first procedure in 2016 and the second two years later — he has since started to focus on getting into shape.

He has become a regular face at celebrity golf events, especially the American Century Championship, where he finally delivered a career-best performance. Despite long being known for a problematic swing filled with a noticeable hitch and full-body pumping motion, dedicated coaching helped him dramatically improve. His improved mechanics culminated in a stellar appearance at Tahoe: he scored nine points under a modified format with one eagle, one birdie, and eight pars—his best showing in decades.

Golf has also given Barkley memorable experiences outside competition. He recounted a magical two-day trip to Augusta National Church with Peyton Manning, Dwyane Wade, and Grant Hill just before the Masters. He described the experience as “unbelievable,” marveling at the course’s SubAir system that dries fairways quickly even during torrential rain. It was a rare glimpse inside one of golf’s most hallowed grounds, and Barkley’s enthusiasm was infectious.

Beyond playing the game, Barkley also takes to the mic to give it his trademark colorful perspective. His candidness and wit have turned golf outings into commentary opportunities, sometimes even allowing him to voice support for social issues—an extension of his larger-than-life personality on and off the course.

His journey from a heavyweight TV presence to a fitter, more fluid athlete on the greens marks a surprising but inspiring arc. With a lighter frame, a smoother swing, and authentic passion for the game, Charles Barkley continues to remind fans that reinvention doesn’t stop with age—especially when driven by the simple joy of swinging a golf club.
