The mission of the I AM a Golfer Foundation is to serve as a driving force for revitalizing and transforming the south Dallas community by implementing programs, preserving, and promoting the historic Cedar Crest Golf Course. By prioritizing preservation, IAMGF aims to honor the storied legacy of Cedar Crest and facilitate agricultural efforts that aim to restore the course to its former championship stature.
On Monday, May 8th and in partnership with the Sifford family, the Foundation invites the public to join them for the unveiling of the world’s first and only, larger-than-life, bronze statue honoring the life and work of Dr. Charlie Sifford. With more than 100 years of rich history, Cedar Crest is a national gem that has played host to many of the game’s greats and events including Walter Hagen’s 1927 PGA Championship victory, “Lighthorse” Harry Cooper, Byron Nelson, Charlie Sifford’s 1954 UGA Negro National Open victory, Lee Elder, and many others.
Also, this fall (Nov. 10-15),the Foundation presents the inaugural Southwest Airlines Showcase at Cedar Crest. Televised live across three days on GOLF Channel from 1:30pm – 4:30pm CST (with daily replays), the breakthrough amateur invitational will spotlight the talents of top collegiate golfers from diverse and historically underrepresented groups. The 54-hole stroke play event will feature concurrent championships for exceptional fields of 21 men and 21 women. Preceding the competition will be a weekend of enrichment activities.
