October 4, 2019 — The Elite Ladies Golf League (ELGL), formerly known as the Ebony Ladies Golf League, legally changed their name in 2017, however, their mission for growing the sport among youth and adults has not wavered. The for-profit club, headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio, is under the leadership of President Brunilda Turner. The Club also operates its affiliate location in Dallas, TX, managed by Chairperson Kusana Turner and Co-Chairperson, Joselynn Hudson.
“I am pleased to continue fulfilling a need in our local communities of Youngstown (OH) and Dallas (TX) to make golf more accessible. There is so much work to be done and our team is up to the challenge,” said Brunilda Turner, President.
During summer 2019, through its Ebony Ladies Golf and Youth Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, the Elite Ladies Golf League completed a successful 10-week summer camp public program that benefitted 25 area youth with a curriculum and activities that included financial literacy, sports, cooking, and crafts. The 9am-5pm program served breakfast, lunch and a snack daily, provided by the Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministry of Youngstown, and scholarships were available for youth unable to afford the $40 fee.
Elite Ladies Golf League Mission:
- Provide a networking outlet for minority women
- Utilize golf for personal growth and career advancement
- Provide educational and mentoring programs to improve golfing skills
- Increase the knowledge, self-confidence and enjoyment of the game of golf
To pursue its mission, the Elite Ladies Golf League expanded its membership to various cities and states to include Youngstown, Cleveland, and Columbus, Ohio; along with Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Texas. This provides league members with opportunities to network and share the love of the game with more women. It also enables the members to maintain and continue their involvement in golf with the league if relocation becomes necessary.
The ELGL is open to new golfers and the Youngstown location provides free lessons and golf clubs.
