EthiopiAset Naima Garvey, a talented and driven 17-year-old, is a dedicated student-athlete with a passion for golf. Residing in Washington, D.C., and attending Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT, EthiopiAset balances her academic pursuits with her commitment to the game she loves. She has shown exceptional skills and determination throughout her golf journey, continually striving for improvement.
EthiopiAset’s journey in golf began under the guidance of her grandfather, who introduced her to the sport and enrolled her in the First Tee program in the Greater Washington Area. Throughout her golfing years, she has received invaluable mentorship from several individuals, including notable figures such as Mr. Donn Davenport and Dr. Wilmer Leon.
“They understand that I am constantly developing in my golf journey and stick with me so I can learn the process of every type of swing,” says the teen. Their kindness and patience have helped her develop her game, understanding that progress comes through dedicated practice and consistent effort.
Among her golf clubs, EthiopiAset particularly favors her 5 and 6 irons. These clubs offer her a comfortable swing, and she has achieved some of her best shots using them.
During her early years in golf, EthiopiAset was a member of the First Tee golf organization. The program provided her with a solid foundation and the opportunity to learn and grow in the sport.
Challenges and Growth:
EthiopiAset admits that she faces the challenge of consistently hitting her shots straight. To address this, she focuses on maintaining consistent grip, foot placement, and swing mechanics. Through persistent practice and a strong determination to improve, she is steadily overcoming this challenge.
EthiopiAset is fortunate to have the unwavering support of her parents, Zoma G. Wallace and William N. Thomas IV. Although neither of her parents play golf, they are enthusiastic about her involvement in golf and have been her biggest supporters throughout her journey. Their belief in her abilities and dedication has motivated EthiopiAset to excel in the sport.
Outside of golf, EthiopiAset engages in various hobbies and activities that contribute to her holistic development. She actively participates in sports such as volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse, nurturing her athleticism and teamwork skills. Additionally, she finds joy in artistic pursuits, such as creating art, analyzing movies, and making short films. The teenager also maintains an active lifestyle through regular workouts and enjoys reading to expand her knowledge and understanding of the world.
