The Citadel African American Alumni Association (CA4) is hosting the 2nd Annual Charles D. Foster Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for The Citadel Foundation (TCF). These funds will support The Citadel African American Alumni Association STEM Scholarship, The Citadel African American Alumni Scholarship, The Citadel African American Alumni Discretionary Fund, and the Ronald K. “Bulldog” Gilliard Athletic Memorial Scholarship.

The Citadel African American Alumni Association (CA4) officially stood up on November 5, 2016, during the celebration activities highlighting the 50th anniversary of Charles Foster as the first African American cadet to enter the Citadel’s gates. Our mission is threefold:

  • CA4 members actively participant in mentoring cadets and by partnering with the Admissions Office to assign select cadets alumni mentors.
  • Raising funds and awareness for scholarships earmarked for African American cadets.
  • CA4 members participate on boards and committees to to ensure schools officials remain focused on diversity issues in all areas of campus operations.

The Citadel Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization TIN 57-6020493, was established to provide financial assistance and support exclusively for The Citadel. Founded in 1961 as The Citadel Development Foundation, the organization was initially tasked with raising money exclusively for educational purposes through the academic endowment fund.

Endowed scholarship funds enable The Citadel to attract and retain the students who best represent the college’s commitment to academic excellence, physical discipline, dedicated military service, and upright moral character. With colleges across the nation actively recruiting the brightest and most promising students, The Citadel must remain competitive, armed with the resources to ensure that those who have the desire and potential to excel in The Citadel’s disciplined academic environment will have the opportunity to flourish.

The ability to enhance the applicant pool’s quality and recruit and retain the most talented students will dramatically improve the overall character and composition of the Corps of Cadets.
