Golfers of central Florida it’s almost that time again!
The Annual Robert C. Saffold Sr. Memorial Charity Golf Tournament will be held on May 10, 2025, SUPPORTING UNDERPRIVILEGED YOUTH OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY. Please note that we have made some changes for this year’s tournament. The biggest change for this tournament is the location, we will be hosting this year’s tournament at The Sebring Golf Club, 3113 Golfview Road, Sebring Fl. 33875. The other change for this tournament is the Registration Deadline is 48 hours before tee time.
That means your registration must be complete by May 5, 2025, to avoid a $10.00 late fee. The reason for this change is the venue needs a head count 24 hours before tee time to prepare for the event. The last change is the price for this event being reduced from $90.00 to $80.00 per player. The new venue gave us a better price and we are passing it on to the players.

Robert C. Saffold Sr.’s influence on his community took root well before the era of formal nonprofits and structured outreach programs. In 1957, while teaching at E.O. Douglas High School—the only school available to Black students in Highlands County, Florida—Saffold witnessed firsthand the need for safe, nurturing environments for young people. The school operated out of repurposed military barracks, a stark reminder of the inequalities created by segregation. Aware that students had few spaces beyond the classroom to gather and grow, Saffold established a community youth center where children and adults could come together for recreation, movies, games, and positive engagement. His goal was both simple and transformative: to create a place of belonging, safety, and opportunity in a community where such resources were limited.
His son, Robert C. Saffold Jr., recalls his father as a man of determination, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service. Raised among prominent figures in local business and industry, he initially overlooked the significance of his father’s grassroots efforts. With time and perspective, he came to realize that the values his father instilled—selflessness, integrity, and community leadership—represented a powerful legacy in their own right. Following Saffold Sr.’s passing in 2021 at the age of 91, his son sought to preserve and expand that legacy by establishing the Robert C. Saffold Sr. Foundation in 2023.
The Foundation is dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds with greater awareness, access, and meaningful experiences that expand their view of what is possible. Its initiatives range from college exposure to vocational exploration, all designed to help youth imagine and pursue futures they may not have previously considered. One of its signature programs, the Annual University Experience, offers local high school students the opportunity to visit a university campus and attend a major football game—experiences that can spark inspiration, confidence, and long-term ambition. Saffold Jr. describes witnessing students’ excitement and reflection during these trips as his greatest reward, affirming the impact of the Foundation’s mission.
Beyond education-focused programs, the Foundation remains deeply engaged in community life through holiday outreach, back-to-school events, and charity golf tournaments. These efforts not only honor Saffold Sr.’s enduring belief in golf as a tool for connection and community building, but also help generate vital support for youth programming. The Memorial Golf Tournament, in particular, carries forward a tradition begun decades ago, celebrating unity, service, and continuity.
Through this ongoing work, the Saffold legacy endures—not merely as a remembrance, but as a living force creating pathways and possibilities for generations to come.
