The Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation is hosting its first golf tournament which will feature a video tribute to, Charles Sifford. Charles Sifford Jr. will also be attending the tournament and luncheon.
The Foundation is named for Biddy Mason an African American Slave who came to Los Angeles in 1851 with her Mormon slaveowner and 13 additional slaves. Mason was freed by the Los Angeles Courts and went on to become a legendary figure in the early Los Angeles Community.
Inspired by the life and work of Biddy Mason the Foundation was created in 2013 to provide services and support to current and former foster youth. The Foundation provides limited housing for female college students, support for grandparents caring for grandchildren, support to mothers whose personal histories include foster care and academic and vocational scholarships for college students. The Foundation has awarded over $300K in scholarships since 2018.
