INDIANAPOLIS, IN – July 18, 2023 – Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is teeing off the inaugural Deltas on the Fairway to bring people together to enjoy the game of golf, as well as increase funding support to enhance and expand the impact of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s National programs and other important initiatives.
This fun and exciting golf tournament, that includes multi-level sponsorships and donation opportunities to help ensure meeting fundraising goals, will be hosted on July 18, 2023, at the Coffin Golf Course. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. An organization of college educated women, with 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, Southern Africa, United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporate is committee to the constructive development of its members and to public service, with a primary focus on the Black community. Founded at Howard University, the first act of public service by members of the sorority was participating in the Suffrage March of 1913, which has been and continues to be followed by acts of service such as: May Week – the designation given to the observance of a program stressing higher education for Black women, Jabberwock – a cultural and fundraising activity whose proceeds usually are given to charity, for scholarships, or to a worthy cause, the National Library Project – which established a traveling library that served the rural areas of the South, Career Development – a program of employment counseling and career development for Black women, Mary Help of the Sick Mission Hospital (formerly Thika Maternity Hospital) in Thika, Kenya, awarding the Distinguished Professor Endowed Chair for Historically Black Colleges and Universities which funds a professor and a unique program of study at an institution that meets strict qualifications, partnership with Habitat for Humanity through which the Sorority has built homes in the United States and Africa, and being the First Black Greekletter organization to be named a Non-Governmental Organization by the United Nations.
Since its founding in 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has clearly distinguished itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African American family have evolved.
