Dear Friend and Community Member,
Antisynthetase syndrome is a clinical condition characterized by polymyositis/dermatomyositis, arthritis, Raynaud’s phenomenon, mechanic’s hands, and interstitial lung disease. Interstitial lung disease, ILD, is the most common complication of antisynthetase syndrome, resulting in increased fatality in patients. Unfortunately, after celebrating just 40 years of life, Dirk Ramrattan’s 18th hole did not occur on the golf course, but instead, he was laid to rest on February 6, 2017 after succumbing to the effects of this autoimmune disease.
Dirk Ramrattan was young, vibrant, and full of life- a rising star in his personal and professional life. Making his way in the world with a loving wife, friends and family Dirk put his heart and soul into everything he did. Dirk actively lived and loved his life, but in the span of one month, he was gone. His presence, his smile, that laugh, the glint in his eyes revealed a mischievous humor that brought joy to many. His captivating energy was felt by all whether he stood on the golf course or in a clinical/pharmaceutical space, Dirk was a gem to all who knew him.
An avid golfer and active member of the Long Island chapter of the National Negro Golf Association, NNGA, the oldest African American golf club comprised of members across seven state chapters, Dirk played on courses across the United States with 150 of his “brothers”.
As treasurer of his local chapter, he volunteered his time to support many community projects from raising funds for the United Negro College Fund to mentoring young golfers within the community. As a seasoned professional, Dirk looked forward to playing an even greater role in the community as a role model to others seeking to advance in their professional careers. As a mentor in the healthcare industry, he worked to instill pride, commitment and the importance of maintaining high standards.
As a member of the VIVO Health Pharmacy team within the Northwell Hospital system, Dirk played a vital role in obtaining URAC Accreditation for all of the Vivo Health Pharmacies, the gold standard accreditation held by only 220 U. S. pharmacies. Dirk was widely known as a supportive and motivating team player who provided opportunities for growth and advancement at each juncture of his career. He touched the lives of many with his generosity, stellar work ethic, liveliness, and sense of humor.
To honor and keep the memory of Dirk alive The Dirk Ramrattan Memorial Foundation has been created by his beloved wife, Keisha Ramrattan and is supported by the love of his close friends. The Dirk Ramrattan Memorial Foundation Mission:
1- To support research towards raising awareness for antisynthetase syndrome, ASS, and supporting families struggling with the disease.
2- To provide annual academic scholarships for pharmacy students at Long Island University, Dirk’s Alma Mater.
The Dirk Ramrattan Memorial Foundation is holding its first annual fundraiser: A Golf Tournament and Dinner Dance on Saturday, August 19, 2017, in Long Island, NY. It promises to be a great event. With over 100 people attending this would be an excellent opportunity for local businesses like yours to support this worthwhile cause. We would like to ask for your support of this event through becoming an inaugural sponsor and supporter. Please see the enclosed to select the level of sponsorship that fits your organization. Reserving your sponsorship package by June 30, 2017 will ensure a spot on the tournament’s website and printed program. All levels of sponsorship packages listed are offered for both team participants and non-players.
