The PGA Jr. League is one of the fastest-growing junior golf initiatives in the United States, designed to introduce young players to the game in a fun, team-oriented environment. Operated by the PGA of America and supported by the PGA REACH Foundation, the program focuses on helping boys and girls ages 17 and under learn golf while developing confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Unlike traditional junior golf competitions that emphasize individual play, PGA Jr. League uses a team format that allows young players to compete alongside friends while wearing numbered jerseys, similar to other youth sports leagues. Players participate in a scramble format, which means teammates work together on each hole, encouraging collaboration and making the game less intimidating for beginners. The structure helps players of all skill levels contribute to their team while learning the fundamentals of golf.
The program is led by trained PGA of America and LPGA Professionals who provide coaching, mentorship, and instruction throughout the season. Their guidance helps participants develop golf skills while also building character and friendships. Many parents appreciate the program because it creates a supportive environment where children can enjoy the sport without the pressure often associated with competitive junior golf.
PGA Jr. League is organized into several age divisions to accommodate different stages of development. These divisions typically include 13-and-under and 17-and-under categories, and newer programs have introduced a 9-and-under division designed specifically for younger beginners with shorter holes and simplified gameplay.
