FOUNDER BIOGRAPHY
Joe M. Smith Is the founder and CEO of The Keep Hope Alive Foundation (KHAF). Joe produced and edited a local TV show titled “The Keep Hope Alive Show” in New Britain, Conn, in 1996 prior to starting the KHAF. Joe is a retired veteran who served two tours while enlisted in the US Army: Afghanistan and Qatar, and he is an alumnus of the Wounded Worrier Project (WWP).
Joe studied Medical Photography and Videography at Fort Gordon for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He uses his skills to serve the community by empowering minds through education and awareness of the mental aspect of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and various outreach programs.
After returning home from Afghanistan, “I began feeling depressed and anxiety from PTSD, the things and the events that happened there. life for me here at home had changed dramatically things were no longer the same, like many of my brother and sisters in combat the depression was leading to the road of suicide; it was in front of me but glory be to God, there was another road to the left that spared my life. I like to call it GOLF AVENUE, and the rest of the story is history,” says Joe.
OUR MISSION IS TO REUNITE WARRIORS, VETERANS AND CIVILIAN TOGETHER: “It’s not about what’s wrong with them, It’s about what happened to them” OUR GOAL IS TO EDUCATE, TRAIN AND BRING AWARENESS TO PTSD BY USING THE GAME OF GOLF AS THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT AND FELLOWSHIP.
