Although Jordan Spieth was just eight holes through on the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open this afternoon, the jump in Internet engagements reflected more of an outright win.
After missing four cuts in his previous seven starts, the former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, who is now World No. 92, the 2015 Masters Tournament champion rammed backed-to-back rounds of 67 to make his first cut of the year.
Spieth has been is somewhat of a slump following his last PGA Tour event in 2017. So today’s round was a welcomed surprise to fans.
Spieth connected with the ball nicely on Saturday at TPC Scottsdale, on No. 8, making a birdie to share the lead at 12 under. Although his lead only lasted a few seconds, it roused up fans on the internet for quite a jolt. A few seconds later, after Spieth’s fourth birdie of the day, Xander Schauffele powered through with 13 under.
