Meet Edmund H. Moore, an accomplished Materials and Manufacturing Engineer with a deep passion for golf. As he nears retirement, he looks forward to dedicating more time to the game that has been an integral part of his life. Not only is Edmund an avid golfer, but he also holds expertise in the materials used to manufacture modern golf clubs. Let’s delve into his story, his commitment to work-life balance, and his upcoming book on financial freedom.
Edmund’s journey with golf began in the late 1960s when his older brother, George R. Moore Jr., introduced him to the game in their backyard. However, racial injustice prevented them from playing on golf courses in their area. It wasn’t until Edmund started working in Dayton, Ohio, in 1993 that he fully embraced golf. Since then, it has become an essential part of his life, providing him with a sanctuary for relaxation and personal growth.
As a Materials and Manufacturing Engineer, specializing in high-tech materials used in golf clubs, Edmund’s expertise extends beyond the fairways. With a background in physics and mathematics, he approaches the game with a scientific mindset, earning him the nickname “the mad scientist.” Keeping a close eye on advancements in materials like metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites, Edmund is always intrigued by the continuous innovations in golf balls, shafts, and club faces.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Edmund actively participates in various golf-related groups, clubs, and organizations. He recently concluded his ten-year tenure as the president of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Golf League. Additionally, he engages with a local group called the “No Nonsense Golfers” and is a proud member of the USGA since 2013. Edmund’s commitment to golf extends to philanthropy as well, as he actively supports multiple scholarship golf outings and charitable events in the African American community.
“I expect for my golf game to improve vastly after I retire this year,” says Moore. I”t was hard to focus on golf when I had children to transport. My eldest daughter, Mackenzie, has recently asked for us to golf together. My youngest daughter does not have that interest & will be college bound later this summer. As an empty nester, I will finally have no reason to not focus on my golf game.
In addition to his passion for golf, Edmund is also an author. His upcoming book, “Financial Freedom: Doing Nothing Is An Option,” is a culmination of his experiences and insights on financial well-being. Recognizing the importance of financial literacy, Edmund aims to empower individuals and families to take control of their financial, physical, mental, and spiritual health. Drawing from his own life experiences, including the passing of both his parents and the financial responsibilities of raising a family and funding his children’s education, Edmund shares practical advice on budgeting, credit, debt, savings, investing, retirement planning, and the importance of seeking professional guidance.
The book, initially intended to be co-authored with his late best man, Richard R. Napier Sr., became Edmund’s personal mission to fulfill their shared vision. With the freedom to address financial topics from a non-certified professional’s perspective, he offers a unique perspective that is relatable to the majority of readers. Edmund’s aim is to empower individuals from all financial backgrounds to improve their financial well-being and build a secure future.
As Edmund approaches retirement, he looks forward to finding a better work-life balance, allowing him more time to pursue his passion for golf, travel, and further refine his game. With his home golf course at the Twin Base Golf Course on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, he envisions spending enjoyable days on the fairways and reducing his golf handicap to a level that matches his skill and dedication.
Edmund H. Moore is not just an exceptional engineer and golfer but also a devoted advocate for financial freedom. Through his book and his commitment to philanthropy, he strives to inspire others to take charge of their financial well-being and live a fulfilling life both on and off the golf course.
