Youth development and good citizenship skills go hand-in-hand and many believe the teachings should begin early. And this is exactly what is happening in the lives of dozens of female youngsters in Tampa, Florida where a new Junior golf lesson program—given through the Girls On the Green Tee (GOTG-T)—has been designed to encourage girls to learn and play the sport of golf. The program has several components and features various initiatives to prepare girls to live and work in a diverse, rapidly changing world.
At Rogers Park in Tampa (FL) girls are getting an opportunity to learn the game of golf while gaining valuable relationship-building skills.
The youth program is a part of Women of Color Golf, founded by Clemmie Perry, and it is quickly capturing the attention of local residents.
LPGA Teaching Professional Alice Brown (pictured above) played on Tour in 2008-2009 and is lending her expertise to the program to get the girls started on the right track. Brown has a strong background in tournament competition and also runs her own junior golf program along with Alice Brown Golf in Tampa as a certified LPGA/USGTF (Ladies Professional Golf Association / United States Golf Teaching Federation) Level IV Master/Examiner/World Teaching and Club Professional.
