JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A man faces a felony charge after police said he ran away from a golf cart crash that left multiple people injured. Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Friday, June 20, to charge Ryan Scott Childers with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, a Class D felony.

The charge stems from a golf cart crash that Jonesboro police were called to investigate at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas on June 8. According to the affidavit, officers found two people injured.

“One victim sustained injuries to his head, right hand, and back and was transported to St. Bernards for treatment, the affidavit stated. “The other victim suffered a broken ankle and fingers.” The officers found that Childers was the golf cart’s driver, but was not scene on when they arrived.

The victims told officers that Childers and six other people were in the golf cart while he was driving back to Childers’ home to get more alcohol. The victims added that Childers began driving recklessly, which prompted one of the passengers to yell at him to stop.

“After this confrontation, Childers abruptly turned the golf cart’s wheel hard in one direction, then immediately steered in the opposite direction, causing the cart to flip,” the affidavit states. According to the court documents, two people were thrown from the cart, and Childers was pinned underneath.

Childers reportedly fled the scene once the cart was lifted off of him, returning to “retrieve his cell phone and keys before leaving again prior to officers’ arrival.” The affidavit stated that Childers is out on a $5,000 temporary bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 31.
