On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Greenwood Golf, in partnership with the Charlotte Chapter of Off the Field NFL Wives Association, will host its 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration Golf Clinic at Emerald Lake Golf Club in Matthews, North Carolina. The event promises to blend athleticism, education, and culture in a dynamic setting that celebrates both freedom and community progress.
The day kicks off with a golf tournament starting at 8:00 AM and continues with a focused clinic beginning at 12:00 PM. Whether attendees are seasoned golfers or picking up a club for the first time, the clinic offers essential golf fundamentals in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere. Participation costs $60 for the clinic and $150 per person for tournament foursomes. Registration is open at www.greenwood.golf/juneteenth2025.
This celebration isn’t just about hitting the links; it’s about giving back. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the HBCU Johnson C. Smith University Golf Team, helping to sustain and grow opportunities for collegiate athletes at the historically Black university.
Founded by Chris Word, Greenwood Golf is a mission-driven organization that promotes diversity and inclusion within the game of golf. The company draws inspiration from the legacy of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma—often referred to as Black Wall Street—by honoring a heritage of Black excellence, entrepreneurship, and resilience. Chris Word, a passionate golfer and advocate for equitable access to the sport, launched Greenwood Golf with the goal of making golf more accessible and reflective of America’s diverse communities.
Greenwood Golf has steadily built a reputation for creating events that combine technical instruction, mentorship, and historical reflection. Its programs are specifically designed to engage communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in the game, using golf as a tool for personal growth and community building.
The Juneteenth golf event is a continuation of that mission. Off the Field NFL Wives Association, the co-host of the golf clinic event, brings together spouses and significant others of former and current NFL players to support philanthropic causes across the country. Their involvement in the Juneteenth Golf Celebration adds a layer of visibility and commitment to family, health, and wellness.
Emerald Lake Golf Club, located at 9750 Tournament Drive in Matthews, NC, provides the perfect backdrop for this powerful and uplifting event. The combination of a premier golf course, experienced instructors, and a meaningful cause makes this Juneteenth Celebration more than just a game—it’s a movement.
Participants are encouraged to register early and secure their spot for what is sure to be a memorable day of celebration, connection, and community impact.
