Charlotte, NC – March 12, 2025 – Greenwood GOLF Charities, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the game of golf, is excited to announce a new fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the next generation of golfers.
This groundbreaking initiative invites golf enthusiasts, professionals, and supporters of the sport to donate the value of just one round of golf per year to help build a sustainable future for young athletes, particularly junior golfers and golf programs at HBCUs. The first year funds raised will directly benefit the JCSU Golf Team and provide critical resources to junior golfers such as access to country club, new equipment, and opportunities for competitive golf experiences.
“We’re thrilled to launch this initiative that makes it easy for anyone to make a meaningful difference,” said Chris Word, Founder of Greenwood GOLF Charities. “By donating the cost of just one round of golf a year, supporters will directly impact the future of golf, ensuring that talented athletes have the opportunities they deserve. Our goal is to raise $500,000 annually, and with the support of our 5,000-plus followers and the broader community, we believe we can make that happen.”
How the Fundraising Initiative Works
For every $100 donated—the equivalent of one round of golf—the funds will be allocated towards:
- Creating an Endowment Fund for HBCU Golf Teams: Ensuring sustainable support for the team’s success in local and national competitions.
- Country Club Access/Memberships: Giving aspiring golfers access to high-quality facilities for practice, training, and competitive play.
- Providing New Golf Equipment: Equipping athletes with the latest gear to give them the best chance of success on the course.
- Golf Trip Experiences: Funding travel opportunities for golf tournaments, exposing players to new challenges and experiences that will help them grow.
A Call for Action
Greenwood GOLF Charities is asking all supporters of the game to commit to donating the value of one round of golf annually. “It’s simple, impactful, and sustainable. Just $100 a year can open doors for these young golfers and provide them with the tools and experiences they need to succeed,” added Word.
