In a heartwarming celebration for Mr. Herb Dixon on Saturday, September 16 at Bartow Golf Course dozens of friends and family gathered to celebrate his 104 Birthday and special unveiling of the new street renamed in his honor, Herbert Dixon Boulevard. The street is in front of the golf course.

Mr. Dixon, a former professional golfer who thrived during the era of segregation in America, took center stage at the tribute. Today, the centenarian’s golf journey is a testament of passion, resilience, and enduring love for the game.

Born and raised in Bartow, Florida, Mr. Dixon’s connection to golf runs deep. He attended Union Academy, and it is in this very community that he continues to reside today. His unwavering dedication to the sport has been a source of inspiration for generations.

In 2023, at the age of 103, during the Regular Meeting of the Bartow City Commission, Mr. Dixon received a well-deserved proclamation. The proclamation commemorated the 10th Annual Herbert Dixon Charity Golf Tournament, an event close to his heart. The proceeds from this tournament contribute to the Bartow Deacons and Stewards Alliance, Inc. Scholarship Fund, providing educational opportunities for deserving individuals.

A year earlier, in 2022, at the age of 102, Mr. Dixon’s local legacy was further immortalized. The driving range at the Bartow Golf Course was named in his honor, a testament to his enduring influence on the local golfing community.

In 2018, at the remarkable age of 98, Mr. Dixon continued to defy expectations by playing golf almost every day. His dedication to the sport and his unyielding spirit serve as an inspiration to all who have the privilege of knowing his story.

Mr. Herb Dixon’s contributions to the world of golf have not gone unnoticed. In 2012, he received a prestigious accolade when he was inducted into the African American Golfers Hall of Fame, recognizing his remarkable achievements and his enduring legacy in the sport.
