A Scottish homeowner is embroiled in a battle with the local council after being instructed to demolish a room constructed in their garden, as it allegedly obstructs the view of a nearby golf course, according to mirror.co.uk. Kenneth Walker, the applicant, is contesting the decision made by East Lothian Council in North Berwick, Scotland.
The council refused retrospective planning permission for the garden room, stating that it is “inappropriate” in comparison to the listed building cottages surrounding it.
Complaints from local residents cited concerns about the structure’s appearance, its impact on natural light, and its visibility from the Glen Golf Course and nearby footpaths.
Mr. Walker maintains that the room was a necessary restoration project for the property and garden which were in disrepair when he purchased them. Walker argues that the new room replaced a similar-sized structure that previously existed.
An appeal has been lodged with the council’s Local Review Body, and a virtual meeting has been scheduled to address the matter. The outcome of the appeal will determine the future of the disputed garden room.
