No one can deny the effectiveness of CBD and products based on it. This market is flourishing, and new products and brands are appearing on it almost every day. It’s both good and bad for buyers. As long as there’s a wide choice, they can find the goods they want. But a large number of brands and products can often be confusing.

Fraudsters also want to take advantage of the high demand for CBD products. They see it as a way to make money quickly by selling ‘miracle,’ cure-all, ‘and 100% CBD’ goods. None of these is true, or at least not yet scientifically confirmed. So be careful who you trust and which product you buy.

If you have little time and some essential kitchen tools, it might be a good idea to prepare home-made CBD oil. In fact, it will be CBD-infused oil (find out what it means here). Making it at home is a great way to get the benefits of this natural remedy without having to chase quality (and expensive) commercial products.

Get Raw Material

The basis of your home-made CBD oil should be a quality variety of hemp. Choose only strains rich in cannabidiol, while the THC proportion should be minimal or none. But if you want, many species have the same ratio of these two cannabinoids in them. For home use, you can play by mixing different strains.

The hemp used in the production of commercial goods is non-intoxicating, which means its sale and distribution are legal. If you can, buy hemp from local breeders. So you can be confident in its properties and quality because you will know on what soil and in what conditions it’s grown.

Another option is to order quality plant material online. Look for trusted suppliers who have a certificate of plant origin. Avoid buying cheap plant material grown in unfamiliar conditions. Hemp has great power to absorb things from the soil and air, so there is a good chance that it’s contaminated.

Choose Carrier Oil

A carrier oil will be the base that will ‘carry’ the extract. This ingredient actually makes the body absorb CBD better, and besides, it brings certain health benefits. Any edible fat will do. But if you want to get the best of your mixture, adapt the carrier oil to the purpose.

Most people use coconut, olive, or hemp seed oil. Keep in mind that hemp and CBD oils are not the same things, although they come from the same plant (CBD is obtained from flowers, while hemp seed is a product of seed processing). The second one has a smaller amount of CBD in it, but it’s rich in essential fatty acids.

MCT oil has the best safety profile of all carriers as it contains more than 90% saturated fats. It’s lighter than most other carriers, and if you want your mixture to be tasteless, MCT is the best choice. Do not confuse it with coconut oil, even though their base is the same (coconut).

‘Waking Up’ CBD

After procuring quality ingredients, you should get the best out of them. It is necessary to subject the plant material to heating (or, professionally speaking, decarboxylation). This process should turn inactive CBDA molecules into active CBD that your body can absorb. Since it’s performed at a relatively low temperature, the decarboxylation process won’t destroy terpenes in the plant.

Chop the hemp flowers with a grinder or knife until you get a uniform mass. The finer you grind, the more efficient the extraction process will be. It’s not necessary to make a powder, but a fine material that will heat evenly.

Spread the crumbled flowers evenly on the baking tray previously lined with baking paper. The oven should be pre-heated briefly before placing the flowers inside. Insert a baking sheet and bake for about an hour at a temperature no higher than 225F. After that, leave the chopped buds to cool completely.

Mix the Ingredients

Ground buds and carrier oil should be mixed and cooked on low, indirect heat for two to three hours. It is best to take a pot that has the possibility of steaming. Slow cookers or double boilers are a great thing for preparing home-made CBD oils. But if you don’t have any of these, you can use two pots. Just make sure that the one where you’ll put the mixture is heavy-bottomed.

Place the mixture in the upper bowl and fill the base with water.

As it slowly warms to low heat, the buds will release cannabidiol into a carrier oil. There is no need for constant stirring; every half hour will suffice. The CBD molecules will slowly be released into the carrier, and the mixture will slowly get a nice green-brown color. At high temperatures, the contents would just boil.

When the time is up, strain the contents through a cheesecloth. As seen in reputable suppliers like Cheef Botanicals, CBD oil is best stored in a glass container or jar. Just make sure it’s well-sealed and stored in a dry and dark place.

After completing your DIY project, you can use this oil in various ways. You can take it orally, in food, and even cook with it. It is good even for a massage. Just make sure you use it in a few months, as its shelf life is not as long as commercial products.
