Hubert Lamont Davis was born January 28, 1960 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Era Louise Davis and Richard Davis. It is with great sadness that the Davis family announced his passing on August 30, 2020 at the age of 60.
Lamont, also known as “Bert”, “Boss Hog” or “Uncle Buck” by friends and associates, will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A native of Fanwood, New Jersey where Lamont graduated from Scotch Plains Fanwood High School class of1978. He was an outstanding football player and went on to attend Temple University in Philadelphia.
Lamont’s love and passion for sports kept him involved in many sporting activities, which included tennis, skiing and golf. His enthusiasm for tennis led him to become a USTA Players Service Associate where he would escort world class players like Venus and Serena Williams and Roger Federer at the US Open.
Lamont worked numerous jobs as a security officer, Commissioner at Scotch Plains Recreation, and served as Treasurer for the Preserve Shady Rest Committee. He also assisted the Outreach Ministry of St. John’s Baptist Church of Scotch Plains, NJ, and volunteered at the Food Bank in Hillside, New Jersey.
He leaves to mourn his brothers Richard C. Davis of Greensboro, North Carolina, Robert E. Davis of College Park Georgia, Raymond J. Davis of Waldorf, Maryland and Anthony T. Davis of Plainfield, New Jersey. His sister Vernita Williams preceded him in death, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law.
