Born in the small town of McRae, GA in 1963, Ira Moore has an adventurous spirit and a big heart to match. Both have served him well in life. His grandfather, L.C. Moton Sr., moved the family to Macon, GA where he worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 42 years. His loving mother, Earnestine Moore, worked at YKK for 22 years and at the City of Macon as an Adaptive Coordinator for 10 years before retiring.
Moore was an only child and always enjoyed academics and learning. In school, math was his favorite subject and he excelled greatly. He attended Northeast High School in Macon where he played golf for four years, followed by 4 years at Jackson State University on a full scholarship. There, his golfing skills progressed and earned him a spot on the SWAC All-Conference Team during his junior and senior years.
He graduated from Jackson State University with a B.S. degree in Computer Science and then played a few mini-tour events. As a teenager and while in college Moore had the opportunity to caddy for some of the notables in golf like James Black, Bobby Stroble, Walter Worthen jr, Robert “SweetJaws” Jones, Chuck Thorpe, Jesse Allen.
Moore loved the game of golf so much so, that he is involved with the Bowden Men’s Golf Association as its Secretary and the Bowden Men’s New Era Golf Tournament which started in 1962 in Macon, GA. The very popular tournament is held annually, however, it has skipped the last two years. But Moore says the tournament will resume next year, in 2022.
Industrious by nature, Moore worked his first real job at Mercer University Engineering Research Center (MERC) as a Database Management Specialist (1990-1992). Afterwards, following his entrepreneurial spirit he started a cell phone company (1993-2003) Moton Paging, selling cell phones and pagers. “Remember those?” chuckles Moore. After closing this venture he went back to work for communications giant AT&T at a retail store to make ends meet. Leaving in 2006, Moore started doing contracts for the government and continues in this line of activity to this day serving at Warner Robins Air Force in Warner Robins, GA.
For his latest venture is IMJR Products, registered under his company Ira Moore Golf LLC. Moore had been searching for something that he enjoys doing before his planned retirement in the next 4-5 years. After securing a trademark, Moore launched his product line on Amazon with golf gloves.
Moore has always believed in giving back whenever he can and he uses his new IMJR products to sponsor the Advocates Pro Golf Tour player Karim Muhammad who wears his gloves. “He’s from Macon, Georgia and I have known him since he was a kid.” Karim Muhammad was also a four-year recipient of the Bowden Men’s Golf Scholarship Award which helped him to go to LeMoyne-Owens College in Nashville, TN “The money went directly to the school for distribution,” says Moore. Another student was Monique Veal who received a 2-year Bowden Men’s Golf Scholarship Award, and today, she works as an Assistant Golf Coach at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga. “It all goes to kids who are going to college on a golf scholarship,” says Moore.
The father of two children, his son, Ira Nigel Moore, graduates in a few weeks from Morehouse college with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and he’s already been accepted into North Carolina A&T University for their Masters program. Moore’s daughter, Ikeia, is attending Kennesaw State University, also majoring in Chemistry.
All of Moore’s start-up money for his business is from his personal investment. Prices for his online items vary in range from gloves ($16.00), big 60″ golf umbrella ($39.99), golf shirts ($45.00), golf caps ($28.95). “I’ve reached out to all of the coaches at the HBCU colleges and offer team discounts,” says Moore. Moore’s Products are manufactured by various vendors and the caps are manufactured in the U.S.A.
