(November 18, 2013)–Jo Ann (JoJo) Bridgewaters-Edmonds has fond memories of Salt Lake City, Utah (her birth place). From there she moved to Aurora, Colorado pursuing her career with the telephone company. However, it was her love for golf and the desire to play year-round that prompted her to relocate Arizona upon her retirement.
“My parents, Dorothy and James Lamb, got me started playing golf,” she says, now working on a 27 handicap. She flourishes in her community as a member of several golf clubs—with one of which includes over a decade of involvement.
“I started with Mile Hi (Denver, CO), and now currently Desert Mashie (both of which are members of Western States Golf Association), Players Golf Club, and Cactus Golf Club in Phoenix, AZ,” says Bridgewaters-Edmonds.
JoJo attended Regis University in Denver, CO where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. Her analytical mindset is perfect for on-course strategies and she uses it to the max.
In May of this year, she married the love of her life, her significant other, Scott Edmonds (photo below).
“He’s a great golfer and we share a passion for the game,” she admits. For her regular weekly rounds, JoJo likes to pair up with her close friends, Bea Baker and Cheryl Marshall. Both players present a great challenge on the course and help to keep her game on track.
“My current home course is Encanto Golf Course,” says JoJo. The course, built in 1935, is located in the core of the city’s Historic District. Designed by William P. Bell, Encanto is the third oldest golf course in Arizona and ideally suited for play by the average golfer. Here, JoJo is able to enjoy a spectacular view of downtown Phoenix while playing on wide, level fairways with a limited number of hazards. The courses’ driving range and putting green have helped her to better her game in these specific areas.
JoJo has benefited from experts in her field and has received instruction and training from Joe Egnoski and Steve Thomas at Green Valley Golf in Denver. This, combined with her strong determination and game focus, has gained her these notable wins:
2nd low net “A” flight at the Valley View Golf Club (Las Vegas, NV) Oct 22-23, 2011, “Tigress of the Week” Low Net Player Golf Club, Oct 16, 2011, 1st Low Gross WSGA Women in Golf North/South Shootout, Sept 24-25, 2011; and Desert Mashie Club Championship, 2nd low Net “C” Flight, Sept., 2013.
”The golf training I received helped me to build confidence, hit straighter shots, and improved my overall golfing skills. My ultimate goal is to lower my handicap.” Not needing anything more than warm weather to motivate her to play, JoJo loves being out on the green. However, when she’s not there, she favors bowling.
As a retiree, golf has captivated her life and she exclaims, “I find it relaxing and challenging, and I am particularly fond of the 19th hole.”
