MONTEBELLO, California (August 30, 2020) – In the final regular-season week for the APGA Tour, the mini-tour providing minorities with opportunities to advance their careers in the sport of golf, junior golf phenom Amari Avery, the African American 16-year-old girl from Riverside, California, competed on Sunday, marking the first time she has tested her skills against adult men.

Results from Sunday plus brief preview of APGA Tour Championship Presented by Lexus Tuesday and Wednesday at Pacific Palms Resort in City of Industry, California.

Avery has made history as a youth player in Southern California and broke through last year,  winning the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur. She has also recently placed second overall at a Cactus Tour event and finished in third place at the Ping Invitational in Oklahoma, playing among the best junior girls in the country.

Amari Avery has a strong competitive history as a teen golf prodigy having already shattered a number of Tiger Woods‘ age group records during her younger days, including having had the fastest rise in history up the Rolex AJGA rankings into the “Top 10.”  In 2017, the Southern California resident was ranked #438 and ranked #10 as the youngest member of the Top 10 of that time.
