LOS ANGELES (Nov. 5, 2021) – The APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Fall Series Finale is set for Nov. 8-9, as the APGA Tour culminates its landmark 2021 season with a strong lineup of tournament winners playing for $45,000 in prize money at Wilshire Country Club.
In a year of unprecedented growth, the APGA Tour expanded from seven tournaments with $200,000 in prize money in 2020 to 14 events offering purses of more than $400,000 this year. The APGA Tour was established in 2010 with the mission to bring greater diversity to the game of golf. Over the past two years, organizers earned increased support from the PGA TOUR and Farmers Insurance while adding several major sponsors to the initiative. Several APGA Tour players were granted exemptions into PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour events, increasing media attention around the APGA Tour’s mission and top players pursuing their dreams of reaching the highest levels of the sport.
Michael Herrera, Landon Lyons, Jarred Garcia, Rovonta Young, Kamaiu Johnson, Marcus Byrd, Kevin Hall, Ryan Alford and Davin White are all 2021 tournament winners in the field of almost 50 players who will compete over 36 holes on the par 71, 6,382-yard course, which has hosted all of the major professional golf tours for prominent tournaments over the years. Johnson is the Tallahassee, Florida, native who had to withdraw his exemption into the PGA TOUR’S Farmers Insurance Open(r) in January because of a COVID 19 diagnosis. He eventually played in three PGA TOUR events and one Korn Ferry Tour competition via exemptions in 2021.
Also in the field, playing her second APGA Tour event, is teenage phenom Amari Avery, the highly-decorated, 17 year-old high school senior from Riverside, California, who is playing as an amateur as she advances her career with an eye on the LPGA Tour. Avery last competed against the APGA Tour pros at APGA Tour Los Angeles in August of 2020 at Montebello Golf Course in Southern California.
Among the other notables competing are Jabir Bilal, winner of the Georgia PGA Championship in September, and Patrick Newcomb, who won the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica’s Bupa Championship in Mexico in July.
Earlier this year, Farmers Insurance and the APGA Tour announced the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Fall Series, a string of three events in Philadelphia, Atlanta and Los Angeles designed to further the APGA Tour’s mission of bringing greater diversity to the game of golf. The APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Fall Series features a $15,000 bonus pool that pays an additional $7,500 to the player who is awarded the most points from each of the three events.
APGA Tour Valley Forge, the Philadelphia-area event, was won by Marcus Manley, and Davin White won the APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Atlanta Championship. With Manley unable to play next week because of PGA TOUR Latinoamerica Q School, White has 780 points and is in position to win the top bonus pool prize of $7,500 with a victory or high-finishing performance. His closest competitor in the field is Tim O’Neal, who has 400 points, 330 coming with his second place finish at Atlanta. Trey Valentine (398), Marcus Byrd (310) and Newcomb (260) are also in contention for bonus pool money. First place is worth 600 points with 330 awarded for second and 210 for third.
Tournament week begins Sunday with practice rounds at Wilshire Country Club. Sunday’s activities will also include a Farmers Advocates Foundation Youth Event for young people from underserved communities to engage in a golf clinic plus health/wellness and career choice discussions. The Advocates Foundation Farmers Insurance Youth Program at Chester Washington Golf Course will include 100 young people for a discussion on health, wellness and careers topics. Essay winners receive scholarships and an opportunity to attend the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open.
The APGA Tour Farmers Insurance Fall Series Finale will be conducted under health/safety guidelines in conjunction with regional authorities.
