“Preparing For The Web.Com Tour!”
Hello friends!
I sit here as I am looking out on a cold, fall morning and I am thinking about how far I have come from a little two-year old boy who lost his hearing.
I think about the experiences I have gone through growing up not only in golf but in life as well.
I think about how incredibly blessed I am to have such wonderful parents and friends in my corner.
I think about how I am also blessed to play golf. The journey that I have had in the game of golf has been a whirlwind one.
Golf has taken me places I never dreamed as a little boy I would go. It has allowed me to meet many people along the way that would become my lifelong friends. It has given me a lot of ups-and-downs that not only improved me as a golfer, but as a person.
It has taken me from a student at St. Rita School for the Deaf participating in various sports, to a high school golfer for Winton Woods High School.
It has taken me from a record-breaking freshman season, to the number one high school golfer in the city of Cincinnati as a senior.
Yes, it has taken me to The Ohio State University where I became the first and only African American deaf golfer in the storied program’s history. It has allowed me to experience one of the greatest days of my life when I broke the Big Ten Championship 54 hole scoring record en route to winning the individual competition by 11 strokes, as well as helping my team win by five.
It has given me the experiences of playing in five PGA events and eleven Web.com events.
It has given me an amazing opportunity to spend a day with Tiger Woods and to witness greatness up close.
As I think back to all the places I have been and the people I have met, I am AMAZED by the journey. I have been on it…and it is still going.
At 30 years old, my desire is still as strong as ever. Every ball I send up into the air on the driving range, I am living a dream that, one day I will be playing on the PGA Tour. Every putt I hit on the putting green, I think about how, one day, I will have a putt to win on the PGA Tour. Every shot I hit in competition is one step closer to realizing all of those dreams.
In the next six weeks as I prepare for the Web.com Tour Qualifying school, I will never forget about how blessed I am to do what I love to do every day.
Thanks to all who have supported me throughout the years and continue to do so. Thanks to all who have sent me e-mails, letters and texts of encouragement; and thanks to all who have shared with me their life experiences that helped me as a golfer and as a person. I will continue to work hard and prepare myself the best I can and hopefully one day things will all fall in place.
Thanks for reading my blog and if you want to contact me, don’t hesitate to do so.
Hit them long and straight,
Kevin
