Last week again confirmed that the University of Alabama Alum Lakarebe Abe won’t give up on being in the thick of it all, as she competes being one of only a few Black women playing competitive golf professionally. The Angleton, Texas native was T25 on the Symetra Tour last week at Mission Inn.

The inaugural Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship presented by Insurance Office of America (IOA) from Oct. 15-17 pledged a full field of competitors who battled it out on the par 72, 6,735 yards El Campeón course. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes.

Abe shot 76 – 74 – 71 over the three days for a score of 221 (+2) and earning herself $1,327.

Although she did not win the $125k purse at the 54 hole tournament, this 24-year old Symetra Tour rookie has career earnings of $34,150, however, it’s just pocket change to what she could be making if all goes as planned over the next several years.

Her second full season on the Symetra Tour, Abe is focused on performance and refuses to play less than here best, ““Every day I just try to tell myself, it’s one thing when it’s a ‘you’ problem you’re dealing with, but when you step back and look at it, this is like a global thing happening,” she said in a Golfweek interview following her 70-73-71 round at the Country Club of Winte Haven in the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic, where The Woodlands resident tied for third, placing her third in the volvik Race for the Card standings. “Me not going to the LPGA is a drop in the bucket compared to what other people are experiencing.”
