At the LPGA, their goal is for golf to reflect the rich diversity of the world we live in. Established in 1950, the LPGA announces an exciting new social media campaign led by Michelle Wie West, which will promote women’s golf, while also seeking to increase the participation among “girls of color.” The #HoodieForGolf campaign brings the popular streetwear fashion item to the forefront of a player-led campaign to raise funds for two important initiatives honoring Renee Powell.

Renee, the second Black player on the LPGA Tour, has dedicated her career to increasing diversity in golf. She is a true trailblazer and beloved global ambassador for golf, and, is currently head professional at her family’s Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio, the only course designed, built, owned and operated by an African American. Her father, Bill Powell, was the first African American person to start a golf club when he founded Clearview in 1946.

All LPGA proceeds from the sale of this limited-edition hoodie will go towards changing the face of golf through the LPGA Renee Powell Fund which provides needs-based grants to LPGA/USGA Girls Golf programs to increase participation by girls in Black communities through access, instruction, equipment and additional resources to introduce girls to golf and keep them in the game. Sales will also benefit the Clearview Legacy Foundation. Hoodie sizes are available from XS to 3X and with support, the LPGA can increase its organization’s awareness while helping more girls of color get into the game of golf.

“To me, it is so important to blend history with future and that is exactly what the hoodie project does,” said Renee, an LPGA Tour Member since 1967. “I am not only honored but more than that proud to be a change factor in what this game looks like. Only when little girls see someone that looks like them will they feel confident and comfortable to jump in and try something different,” says Renee.
