The third major of the 2024 LPGA Tour season kicks off this week at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, WA, where the world’s top golfers will compete in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. With the championship purse now increased to $10.4 million, the stakes are higher than ever.
In addition to the substantial purse, 650 points in the Race to the CME Globe are up for grabs. However, perhaps the most coveted prize is a spot in the field for the 2024 Olympics. As the qualification period ends after this event, many athletes are making a final push to secure their place in Paris with a strong performance at Sahalee.
The field boasts an impressive lineup, including nine past champions. Among them are 2023 winner Ruoning Yin, 13-time LPGA Tour champion Brooke Henderson, and current Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda. Seventeen LPGA Tour rookies from 2024 will also make their debut, featuring notable players such as 2023 Epson Tour Player of the Year Gabriela Ruffels, Olympic silver medalist Mone Inami, and Ladies European Tour winner Alexandra Forsterling.
Mariah Stackhouse, playing with a sponsor exemption, will tee off at 2:12 p.m. on Day 1 alongside playing partners Lindy Duncan and Sarah Kemp for the stroke play, 72 holes 69th event.
