More bad news lingers as the coronavirus claims yet another sports event. Augusta National Golf Club has announced that the Masters Par-3 contest won’t be held because of social distancing protocols related to the coronavirus pandemic. This marks the second consecutive year the traditional Masters kick-off event has been canceled, and the third time in the past five years.

In a statement released by the club, it said that it hoped the event would resume in 2022 and reiterated its rules for attending this year’s Masters.
Those part of the limited crowd in attendance must wear a face covering at all times and maintain a physical distancing of at least six feet.

The reigning champion of the Par-3 contest is Matt Wallace, who edged Sandy Lyle in a playoff back in 2019.

This year’s Masters is scheduled for April 8-11. World No 1 Dustin Johnson will defend his green jacket.

The Masters Tournament Par-3 contest is a golf competition that precedes the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The first Par-3 contest was held before the 1960 tournament, and was won by three-time Masters champion Sam Snead.
