Michael Cooper has accepted the role of Senior Regional Golf Engagement Advisor with the USGA. Michael brings a wealth of expertise, experience, and perspective to the Senior Regional Golf Engagement Advisor role. Michael’s experience in golf ranges over 30 years, including leadership roles with the World Golf Foundation and First Tee, with extensive investment and contributions at the player development and grassroots level. His deep experience as an educator in academic settings, focusing on strategic planning, advocacy, community organizing, youth development and social change, will also coalesce to serve him uniquely in this role,
Michael will operate remotely from his home in Tampa, Florida with a targeted start date of May 31.
Over the coming months, starting with the 122nd U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club in Brookline. he will meet with several internal USGA functional area leaders with whom he’ll be engaging in support of furthering a deeper narrative behind how the USGA is championing and advancing the game of golf regionally at public and municipal golf courses across the country, and how the economic, environmental, health-oriented and societal contributions of these courses are integral and essential to the fabric and vitality of the communities in which they operate.
