The Midnight Golf Program caters to underserved young men and women in Detroit, Mich., and surrounding suburbs. The selective, golf-centered program was started in 2001 by Founder and President Reneé Fluker. Annual student interviews are conducted and only high school seniors in the area are eligible for the prestigious program. Those fortunate enough to be accepted have an opportunity to gain an experience of a lifetime with mentorship, learning life skills, etiquette, how to dress for success, a college bus tour, and much more, all while learning the game of golf with PGA professionals.
Participants attend biweekly sessions for seven months. Each session is three hours long — students receive golf lessons and life lessons such as financial literacy, interview skills and speech writing — with dinner. The program doesn’t cost participants anything, thanks to funding from sponsorships and donations from businesses, community donors, mentors, and program alumni.
The Midnight Golf Program also provides its students with equipment to get started in the program including a set of golf clubs and Midnight Golf polo shirts, hats, bookbags, and golf gloves, all at no charge.
Watch, listen and learn how Renee Fluker, a former social worker, got it all started for Midnight Golf and how she has kept the program going strong.
